New Year, New You: Library Edition

by Rachel Kelly

New Year's Resolutions, we’ve all made them, we’ve all failed at them, and we’ll all make them again for 2024!

One thing fun about changing over the calendar is the feeling of a fresh start. What better time to begin anew, make those resolutions, and try to become a better version of yourself. Let the library help you with your goals in 2024. We’ve taken some common resolution phrases and will share with you how we can help you with our New Year, New You: Library Edition

“I hope to” learn a new language - In 2024, we will have both French and Spanish conversation classes for you to immerse yourself in a new language. We also have Mango Languages, an app with over 70 languages for you to learn from the comfort of your own home.

“I’m going to” make more time for myself - No worries, the events we have planned for 2024 will give you an excuse to get out and make time for YOU! We have crafting classes, jewelry making, book discussion groups, art lectures, adult coloring, just to name a few. Check out Libby and listen to an audiobook. Watch a free movie with Kanopy. Or just stop by the library to read, study, or help with our community puzzle.

“I would like to” travel this year - Don’t buy a travel guide book, we have Fodors, Rick Steves, Lonely Planet, and many more to help you make the best of your vacation. And if you're travelling abroad, don’t forget those language options listed above.

“I need” a new job or career - Need to revamp your resume or cover letter? Want to see what career options are available? Peterson’s Test and Career Prep will give you the free tools to help you succeed.

“I want to” make healthier choices this year - In January, we have programs to help you. With Intuitive Eating, you’ll learn how to stop dieting and listen to your body. Phoenix Rising: Facing Adversity will give you tools to face life’s challenges with courage. There are self-help books (call number 150s)  that can help you live authentically, we have health and wellness books (call number 610s), and cookbooks for all diets and nutritional needs (call number 641).

“I promise” myself that I will read more - Well if this isn’t the easiest one we can help you with… we can’t even begin to share with you all the ways we can get your reading goals accomplished this year. Check out our book displays, browse our shelves, place holds right from your phone, check out Libby for eBooks and eAudiobooks, our shelves are brimming with fiction in all genres, nonfiction, graphic novels, manga, audiobooks, magazines, and more. There are too many options, we’re giving you zero excuses to skip this resolution.

While we can’t keep your commitment to your resolutions for you, we can give you the tools you need to be your best self in 2024. Why not stop by and see all that we have to offer, and even if you break all your resolutions by January 2nd, we will still be here to support you (and let you in on a little secret…. the dessert cookbooks can be found by call number 641.8)
